About Me
Hi! My name is Emily Workman. Thanks for visiting to learn more about me and the services I offer. I hope we have the opportunity to meet soon!
I am a birth doula trained by DONA International and am passionate about providing support to women and their families from all walks of life. I recognize that there is a beautiful diversity amongst pregnant women, each with different hopes, expectations, and belief systems surrounding pregnancy and birth. I fervently believe that every woman, no matter if she has an un-medicated birth or a caesarean, at home or at a hospital, can benefit from the encouraging, comforting and knowledgeable support that a doula offers.

Why Hire a Doula?
“The doula fills a [critical] gap in maternity care”
- Penny Simkin
A birth doula is someone experienced in childbirth who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and just after childbirth. The goal of a birth doula is to help the mother experience a positive and safe birth, whether an un-medicated or cesarean, at home or in a hospital.
With the continuous presence of a birth doula, laboring mothers experience:
-
More positive childbirth experience, even when labors are long or complicated
-
Shortened labor
-
More positive birth outcomes
-
Fewer birth complications involving themselves or their baby
-
More successful initiation of breastfeeding
-
Reduced use of pitocin
-
Reduced need for pain medications
-
Reduced requests for epidurals
-
Reduced chances of c-section
